About Revelian Assessments
The Revelian Abstract Reasoning Test measures the ability to see relationships and patterns in shapes and diagrams. Abstract reasoning ability is linked to job performance in roles requiring the ability to make decisions using conceptual information.
How do I complete the Abstract Reasoning Test?
The test has 32 abstract reasoning items and you’ll have 10 minutes to complete as many questions as you can. Most people don’t complete all 32 questions in the allocated time, so we recommend moving as quickly as you can through the assessment and answering the questions you feel confident about, then attempting the remaining questions if you have time.
How can I prepare for the test?
The test is designed to measure abilities that don’t rely on any specific knowledge, so it’s not something you can effectively study for. Before you start the test, you will view a set of example questions to help you understand the type of questions you’ll find in the test. The most important thing you can do is to ensure you’re well rested and focused and can sit the test in a distraction-free environment. Some people also feel that performing mental exercises such as maths problems or crosswords helps to improve their focus before taking the test.

How do I complete Cognify?
Before commencing any of the assessment you will be provided with some information on the assessment and on what games you will be playing. You will then be able to choose what order you complete the games in, and attempt them separately in your own time.
If you lose internet connection during any of the games, it’s important not to close your browser. Wait until a message appears telling you that the connection has been re-established and continue with that game.
How can I prepare for the assessment?
This assessment is designed to measure abilities and traits that don’t rely on any specific knowledge, so it’s not something you can effectively study for. Completing the tutorials and reading all instructions carefully will help you prepare.
In addition, it’s very important to ensure you’re in a comfortable environment free from distraction and that you complete the assessment to the best of your ability.

Emotify is an ability based measure of emotional intelligence that is comprised of two separate mini-assessments: Matching Faces and Emotional Ties. These assessments have been specifically developed to assess your ability to accurately perceive emotions, and effectively understand the connections between emotions, and situations that lead to specific emotional reactions. Emotify is timed and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
How do I complete Emotify?
Emotify is a game-based assessment that can be played on a desktop, tablet or mobile device. It contains two mini-assessments called Matching Faces and Emotional Ties. Matching faces requires you to quickly identify the emotion displayed on a person’s face, while Emotional Ties requires you to read a number of everyday situations and predict the types of emotional consequences that may arise as a result of these situations.
Before commencing the assessments, you will be provided with information about the games you will be playing, as well as a tutorial containing an example question so you can see exactly what is required of you.
How do I prepare for the assessment?
Emotify is designed to measure abilities that don’t really rely on any specific knowledge or previous study, and it’s not an assessment you can pass or fail. The aim of the assessment is to identify whether certain emotional intelligence abilities are likely to be strengths of yours. As such, there’s no specific study required before completing Emotify. The best thing you can do to prepare is to ensure you’re in a comfortable, distraction-free environment, and that you read all of the instructions carefully. As with all Revelian assessments, you will also be able to see an example question before you begin the assessment, so you will know exactly what is required of you.

Most people don’t complete all 25 questions in the allocated time, so we recommend moving as quickly as you can through the assessment and answering the questions you feel confident about, then attempting the remaining questions if you have time.

The Revelian Values Inventory compares a person’s work-related values – in other words, the things you feel are most important in an ideal job – with the values that are endorsed by a particular organisation. The level of match or congruence between a person’s values and the organisation’s values – also known as cultural fit – has been empirically linked to organisational commitment (loyalty to, and desire to stay with, an organisation).
How do I complete the Values Inventory?
The assessment asks you to rank different characteristics of your ideal job from most important to least important and takes around 10 minutes to complete (un-timed). For example, you may value a steady and secure work environment more than the ability to work on a variety of tasks. This doesn’t mean you don’t value variety: just that you value a steady and secure work environment more. We recommend that you follow your initial reaction when ranking the items, as this will give the most accurate response. Once you finish the assessment, your responses will then be compared with the values the organisation offers, as perceived by its employees or management to determine the degree of match.
How should I prepare for the Values Inventory?
Because the assessment is not a pass or fail test, and is not designed to assess any prior learning or skill, there is no need to study beforehand. We recommend reading the instructions carefully before you start the assessment and ensuring you are in comfortable, distraction-free environment.

How do I complete the Verbal Reasoning Test?
The test has 35 verbal reasoning items and you’ll have 10 minutes to complete as many questions as you can. We recommend moving as quickly as you can through the assessment and answering the questions you feel confident about, then attempting the remaining questions if you have time.

How do I complete the assessment?
The assessment asks you to answer 84 short questions about which of two tasks you would prefer to do, for example, whether you would prefer to read a book or dig in the garden, and takes approximately 10 minutes (un-timed). We recommend that you follow your initial reaction when answering the questions since this will provide the most accurate response.
How should I prepare assessment?
The assessment simply asks you what type of tasks you would prefer to do. Because the assessment is not a pass or fail test, and is not designed to assess any prior learning or skill, there is no need to study beforehand. We recommend reading the instructions carefully before you start the assessment and ensuring you are in comfortable, distraction-free environment.

The Revelian Work Reliability Scale includes questions about individual characteristics and work situations related to employee honesty and reliability, which are linked to important job-related outcomes, and allows an organisation to identify those candidates best suited to its specific work demands and conditions.
How do I complete the Work Reliability Scale?
You’ll be asked to indicate your opinion about a series of statements using a response scale. These response scales will vary throughout the assessment, so it’s important to read all questions carefully. The assessment is un-timed and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
How can I prepare for this assessment?
Because the assessment is designed to identify your attitudes and opinions about a number of work-related issues and situations and is not reflective of any prior study or learning, no benefit is gained by “studying” for this assessment. We recommend reading the instructions carefully before you start the assessment and ensuring you are in comfortable, distraction-free environment.

The Revelian Work Safety Assessment asks questions about your attitudes and opinions towards safety at work. These questions allow an organisation to identify candidates that are well suited to its safety requirements and conditions.
How do I complete the assessment?
You’ll be asked to indicate your opinion about a series of statements using a response scale. These response scales will vary throughout the assessment, so it’s important to read all questions carefully. Note: the assessment also checks for overly positive responses, so you should choose the answer that best reflects your individual attitudes, rather than how you think you ‘should’ answer.
Should I respond in terms of how I behave at work, or outside of work?
This assessment is interested in your attitudes and opinions regarding the world of work, and your life more broadly. Some statements will explicitly refer to situations that involve work: For these statements, you should respond in terms of your attitudes about work. Other statements will ask about your broader hobbies, interests and opinions: For these questions we are interested in your attitudes more broadly.
How should I prepare for the assessment?
The assessment is designed to identify your attitudes and opinions about safety at work and is not reflective of any prior study or learning, so there’s no need to ‘study’ beforehand. We recommend reading the instructions carefully before you start the assessment and ensuring you are in comfortable, distraction-free environment.

General Questions about Completing Assessments
If you have concerns that a disability or impairment may impact on your assessment, we recommend advising the recruiter or hiring manager of your situation before completing the assessment. This will help the recruiter to accommodate your needs within the rest of the recruitment process and Revelian can work with them to apply a suitable accommodation for your assessments.
If you have concerns about disclosing information regarding your needs to the recruiting organisation, our candidate support team can assist you by liaising with the recruiter on your behalf. In that case, please provide the following information to help us better understand how your disability may affect your assessment experience:
- The name of condition, disability, impairment, illness or personal situation (if applicable)
- A description how your condition, disability, impairment or personal situation will impact your ability to complete the assessments
- Medical certification to confirm your condition and how this may impact your ability to complete the assessment
- Documentation to confirm appropriate time adjustments to be applied to assessments (if applicable)
- Whether you give us permission to discuss details of your situation with the employing organisation/s on your behalf (If you have multiple applications pending, please let us know how many are impacted and who they are.)
- Your best contact number
Send this information to our candidate support team via our support form.
Once we receive the above information along with your consent to discuss your circumstances, our psychology team will be in contact with the recruiter to discuss your application.
The simple answer for most assessments is no, not really. While some companies might try to get you to pay money to complete practice assessments, and tell you that this will help you to perform better when you complete certain assessments, the reality is that most tests aren’t the kind of thing you can practice for.
There are two different types of tests you could be invited to complete: Ability tests and Attitude tests.
Ability tests (also known as aptitude) are designed to assess your innate abilities, which aren’t generally things that can be learned or taught. Examples include:
- The Cognitive Ability Test (RCAT)
- Cognify (Game-based cognitive ability assessment)
- The Abstract Reasoning Test (RART)
- The Numerical Reasoning Test (RNRT)
- The Verbal Reasoning Test (RVRT)
- Emotify (Game-based emotional intelligence assessment)
You’ll have the opportunity to complete several practice questions before you begin each test, which will help you to familiarise yourself with the kinds of questions you’ll be asked throughout the assessment.
Attitude tests (also known as personality tests) are designed to help employers understand more about your personality and preferences. As such, there are no right or wrong answers for these tests, just your personal preferences, interests, and motivations. Examples of these tests include:
- The Work Preferences Profile
- The Values Inventory
- The Work Safety Assessment
- The Work Reliability Scale
The best way to complete these tests is without too much thought: just choose the responses that feel most natural to you.
As mentioned above Revelian assessments aren’t the kind of tests you can practice for, since they measure innate abilities or aptitudes, or personal preferences or attributes. You will, however, have the opportunity to complete several practice questions before you begin each test, so you’ll be able to familiarise yourself with the kinds of questions you need to answer or tasks you need to complete.
We recommend taking as much time as you need with the practice questions, to ensure you feel as comfortable as possible before you begin your tests. You should also make sure you’re in a comfortable, distraction-free environment and are feeling relaxed, well-rested and ready to perform at your best.
When you log in to complete your recruitment assessments, you’ll see a screen that lists which assessments you’ve been asked to complete and how long each one will take. As long as your invitation isn’t due to expire, you don’t need to begin the assessments straight away: you can log out and log back in at a later time if that suits you better.
If the assessment is timed, you will need to complete the whole assessment in one session.
As a general guide, each assessment will take the following time to complete:
Cognitive Ability Test: 20 mins (timed)
Cognify: 30 mins approx. (timed)
Emotify: 20 mins approx. (timed)
Verbal Reasoning Test: 10 mins (timed)
Abstract Reasoning Test: 10 mins (timed)
Numerical Reasoning Test: 12 mins (timed)
Values Inventory: 10 mins (not timed)
Work Safety Assessment: 10-15 mins (not timed)
Work Reliability Scale: 10-15 mins (not timed)
Work Preferences Profile: 10-15 mins (not timed)
You will need to have been invited to complete assessments by an organisation that uses Revelian assessments. If you have received an invitation email, please follow the instructions to log in and begin your assessments.
When you log in to complete assessments, the system will ask you to provide your personal and security information, and will then detect whether you have valid responses for the assessments you’ve been invited to. If you do, you will be asked whether you’d like to release or withhold your responses.
Please note that if you withhold your results, you won’t be able to complete the assessment again and you may jeopardise your chances of advancing further in the recruitment process.
To ensure that all candidates for employment have an equal opportunity to perform and that no-one is over-advantaged by practice, you won’t be able to complete a Revelian recruitment assessment again if the system identifies these results as valid.
If another employer who uses Revelian assessments (or the same employer) invites you to complete the same assessment for a different position, you may be asked to release your previous responses. These will then be compared to the relevant comparison group for the new position, therefore your percentile score may be different from the first time you completed the assessment.
Revelian has a broad range of assessments, so you may have been invited to complete different tests than those you’ve already completed.
When you log in to complete assessments, the system will ask you to provide your personal and security information, and will then detect whether you have previous responses for the assessments you’ve been invited to. If you do, you will be asked whether you’d like to release or withhold your responses.
Please note that if you withhold your results, you won’t be able to complete the assessment again and you may jeopardise your chances of advancing further in the recruitment process.
When you complete assessments, a confirmation is sent to your registered email address. If you can’t find it, please check your junk or spam folders.
You can also:
a) Log in to your Revelian account and check view your status for the relevant position or
b) Use the details in your assessment invitation email to log in to the assessment space. If your assessments are incomplete and your invitation hasn’t expired, you will be able to complete them.
Please contact the organisation that sent you the email invitation to complete assessments and request an extension.
This information is used for research purposes only, to allow us to ensure that the assessments don’t discriminate against anyone based on their demographic characteristics. This information is held in complete confidence by Revelian and is fully anonymous: none of this information is passed to the recruiting organisation.
Recruitment assessments allow recruiters to objectively and equitably compare different candidates for a role since all candidates are asked to complete the same assessments. They also provide candidates with an opportunity to showcase their skills and abilities.
The process ensures that if a particular candidate is well matched to the job requirements, they will be identified as a person who is likely to be committed to the organisation and satisfied in the job.
Please note: Revelian recruitment assessments do not replace other selection methods, such as interviews, but are one part of a comprehensive recruitment process and should be used alongside other selection tools when making recruitment decisions. The assessment results provide additional information about a candidate to help recruiters identify the people most suited to the job.
Technical Questions about Assessments
You’ll need to access a computer device that meets the minimum system requirements:
Currently the only Revelian assessments that are mobile compatible are Cognify, Emotify and the Work Safety Assessment. If your assessment invitation only includes some or all of these assessments, you will be able to login and complete on a mobile device. If you are completing Cognify and/or Emotify, make sure to check the system requirements for Game-based assessments to ensure the best experience.
The assessments require a set amount of space in your internet browser window, so you can see the full assessment on the screen. Sometimes you will need to adjust your browser magnification or zoom to do this.
- If your zoom or magnification setting is too high, the content on your screen will often look larger than usual. You can decrease the zoom level by holding the Ctrl button and pressing the minus (-) key (Windows computers) or holding down the Cmd, Option and minus (-) keys at the same time (Mac computers).
- If your zoom or magnification setting is too low, the content on your screen will often look smaller than usual. You can increase the zoom level by holding the Ctrl button and pressing the plus (+) key (Windows computers) or holding down the Cmd, Option and plus (+) keys at the same time (Mac computers).
If you’re not able to change your zoom level by using these keys, you can do so by changing the settings for the browser you’re using.
Mozilla Firefox
- Click the menu button
on the right. The customization menu will open and you will see the zoom controls at the top.
- Use the + button to zoom in, and the – button to zoom out. The number in the middle is the current zoom level – click it to reset the zoom to 100%.
-
Google Chrome
- Click the Chrome menu
on the browser toolbar.
- Find the “Zoom” section in the menu and choose one of the following options:
- Click
to make everything on the page larger.
- Click
to make everything smaller.
- Click
Safari
- Click View > Zoom in or View >Zoom out.
The assessments require a minimum amount of screen space to fit the assessment experience without needing to scroll your mouse. If we detect that your display does not fit the entire application a warning will be triggered. The application will require you to increase the amount of screen space available to accommodate the entirety of the assessment for the best possible experience.
To increase the amount of screen space available you can try the following:
- Set the browser set to full screen mode by pressing F11 (Laptop Keyboards: Fn + F11; Mac: Ctrl + Cmd + F).
- Change the screen resolution for your monitor by right-clicking on your desktop, selecting Screen Resolution and changing the resolution to be greater than 1280 x 768;
- Close the bookmarks toolbar by going to the Menu bar and selecting View, then Toolbars and unticking Bookmarks;
- Reset the zoom level on your browser to 100% by holding the Ctrl button and pressing the minus (-) key (Windows) or Cmd + Option + – (Mac). If it’s already at 100% and the browser window is still too large, try changing the zoom level to 90% (or 80%). If you try this option, please do not proceed with assessments unless you are certain that the text is still easily readable at that size. See more information on adjusting zoom levels here.
If you have tried more than one browser and /or are unable to make the required changes to your computer/browser, please try on an alternate computer with a bigger display such as a family member or friend’s, local council library, or an internet cafe.
