Game-based assessments: System requirements and frequently asked questions
Completing game-based assessments: Cognify & Emotify
Cognify and Emotify are a little different to most other assessments you may have completed. They require your device to send a continuous stream of data to our servers – often as many as 10,000 data points each time the game is played.
This means that, because of firewalls and other security measures and restrictions on streaming data and installing programs, you may experience problems if you try to play these games on a workplace computer or a corporate network.
For this reason, we recommend playing the games on a device and network that doesn’t have these kinds of restrictions. In addition, we recommend:
- Installing the latest version of the Google Chrome web browser
- Ensuring you have a reliable internet connection
- Following all instructions once you’ve logged in to complete your assessments
Frequently Asked Questions & Technical Requirements
Cognify
What is Cognify?
This assessment is likely to be different to those you may have completed in the past. Cognify uses game based assessments to measure a number of abilities that have strong links to job performance. In this assessment candidates are asked to complete a variable number of short games that assess differing aspects of one’s ability. Cognify is timed and takes about 30 minutes to complete.
How do I complete Cognify?
Before commencing any of the assessments you will be provided with some information on the assessment and on what games you will be playing. You will then be able to choose what order you complete the games in and attempt them separately in your own time.
If you lose internet connection during any of the games, it’s important not to close your browser. Wait until a message appears telling you that the connection has been re-established and continue with that game.
How can I prepare for the assessment?
This assessment is designed to measure abilities and traits that don’t rely on any specific knowledge, so it’s not something you can effectively study for. Completing the tutorials and reading all instructions carefully will help you prepare. In addition, it is very important to ensure you’re in a comfortable environment free from distraction and that you complete the assessment to the best of your ability.

Emotify
How do I complete Emotify?
Emotify is a game-based assessment that can be played on a desktop, tablet or mobile device. It contains two mini-assessments called Matching Faces and Emotional Ties. Matching faces requires you to quickly identify the emotion displayed on a person’s face, while Emotional Ties requires you to read a number of everyday situations and predict the types of emotional consequences that may arise as a result of these situations.
Before commencing the assessments, you will be provided with information about the games you will be playing, as well as a tutorial containing an example question so you can see exactly what is required of you.
How do I prepare for the assessment?
Emotify is designed to measure abilities that don’t really rely on any specific knowledge or previous study, and it’s not an assessment you can pass or fail. The aim of the assessment is to identify whether certain emotional intelligence abilities are likely to be strengths of yours. As such, there’s no specific study required before completing Emotify. The best thing you can do to prepare is to ensure you’re in a comfortable, distraction-free environment, and that you read all of the instructions carefully. As with all Revelian assessments, you will also be able to see an example question before you begin the assessment, so you will know exactly what is required of you.

General troubleshooting
If you have concerns about disclosing information regarding your needs to the recruiting organisation, our candidate support team can assist you by liaising with the recruiter on your behalf. In that case, please provide the following information to help us better understand how your disability may affect your assessment experience:
- The name of condition, disability, impairment, illness or personal situation (if applicable)
- A description how your condition, disability, impairment or personal situation will impact your ability to complete the assessments
- Medical certification to confirm your condition and how this may impact your ability to complete the assessment
- Documentation to confirm appropriate time adjustments to be applied to assessments (if applicable)
- Whether you give us permission to discuss details of your situation with the employing organisation/s on your behalf (If you have multiple applications pending, please let us know how many are impacted and who they are.)
- Your best contact number
Send this information to our candidate support team via our support form.
Once we receive the above information along with your consent to discuss your circumstances, our psychology team will be in contact with the recruiter to discuss your application.
To avoid calls disturbing your assessment session, please set your mobile device to ‘do not disturb’. This will prevent interruptions from calls, messages or app notifications. It’s a good idea to check your ‘Do Not Disturb’ (Apple) or ‘Interruption Settings’ (Android) to make sure the ‘Do not Disturb’ setting is enabled whilst the phone is unlocked (sometimes the default setting for ‘Do not Disturb’ is to only prevent calls while the phone is locked).
For instructions on how to enable Do Not Disturb and check the settings:
- Apple instructions: Click here
- Android instructions: Click here
The minimum viewport size required to run Cognify is 568 x 320. The viewport size is the visible area of a browser page and does not include page space taken up by toolbars. If the size of your screen is more than or equal to 568 x 320, but you cannot progress to the assessment, it is likely that toolbars are reducing your viewport size to under the minimum required. To resolve this issue, the device browser needs to be put into ‘full screen mode’ which will hide the toolbars and allow full use of the screen size. If you are unsure how to enable full screen mode, we recommend searching online for your device manufacturer’s official guide as the process varies depending on the make and model of your device.
If the physical size of your screen does not meet 568 x 320, enabling full-screen mode will not resolve the problem. You will need to find a device that does meet these requirements before you can access the assessment.
To ensure a consistent assessment experience, your browser zoom or magnification level needs to be set to 100%.
If the system is advising that your magnification level is greater than 100%, you will need to change the zoom setting in your browser to 100% by holding the Ctrl button and pressing the minus (-) key (Windows) or holding down the Cmd + Option + minus (-) keys at the same time (Mac).
If you need to increase the magnification to reach 100%, you will need to use the plus (+) symbol instead of the minus (-) symbol in the above keyboard shortcuts.
Depending on your internet speed, the game will sometimes take a little while to load. There may be a few points at which the download seems to stop – in particular, some people find it looks as if it’s stopping at 66%. However, if you wait a little longer, eventually the file will continue to download.
In general, the best thing to do is be patient, leave your browser open, and give the game enough time to load completely.
If your game doesn’t load past 0%, it’s possible that you have a 64-bit operating system, but are using a 32-bit browser. If this seems to be the case, you should download a browser that’s in line with your operating system and try to load the game again.
The rotating arrow and phone icon appears when you are required to rotate your device’s orientation.
Some mini-games may require your device to be rotated to portrait or landscape orientation before proceeding. If you are physically rotating your device when prompted, but your screen is not rotating to the desired orientation, it’s likely that your devices orientation feature is currently locked.
If you are unsure how to enable the screen orientation feature, we recommend searching online for your device manufacturer’s official guide, as the process varies depending on the make and model of your device.
These assessments should be a smooth experience without lag (such as slow or ‘glitchy’ movements) or unresponsiveness (having to click things multiple times for an action to occur).
Lag and lack of responsiveness can happen on much older machines that have dated hardware, or on a machine that has internet connection issues, not enough physical memory or is running too many programs/process (not enough CPU to run the assessments properly).
If you’ve ensured that your device meets the system and browser requirements and you are still experiencing issues, we suggest trying the following:
- Close any unnecessary browser windows or browser tabs
- Close or shut down any unnecessary programs on your device (E.G Music player)
- Open the task manager and check if CPU or Memory use is higher than normal. See if there are any programs or background processes using a lot of processing power or memory and close if not necessary
- Ensure there aren’t too many people/devices on the same connection as you as they may be taking up too much internet bandwidth (slowing down your connection)
- Troubleshoot for issues with internet connectivity if internet speed is being slow in general
